Carolyn Mendola

Client Manager

Early Years

Born and raised in Baltimore County, Carolyn graduated Suma Cum Laude from the University of Baltimore. She earned a bachelor's degree in Health Systems Management and is a member of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. Ms. Smarty Pants met her husband while working together at Linwood's restaurant, and the two ran off to swanky Providence, Rhode Island while he attended culinary school. Fortunately for us, that's when Carolyn landed her first job working with a national insurance carrier.

What we know about Carolyn:

"Putting the "pro" back in "proactive."

Carolyn has been brightening the insurance scene since 1998, on both the carrier and broker side. She has held such roles as support analyst, assistant account manager, benefits analyst and account manager and holds a Life and Health license. She resides in Towson, Maryland with her husband Pete and daughters Ava and Nina.

Say "proactive" and Carolyn is so there. Passionate about establishing and maintaining strong relationships, she manages a large volume of clients for EBS. Proof in point: Carolyn prepares benefit illustrations that offer solutions that help clients make informed decisions regarding their benefits. She conducts client open enrollment meetings. Attends webinars and carrier meetings to stay on top of market trends and industry-specific topics . . .honestly, it's too tiring to list it all.

Fun Facts

I played a "Flying Monkey" in the a summer camp production of The Wizard of Oz. Needless to say, there was no future in Hollywood for me.

My toes are double jointed. But please don't ask me to demonstrate!

Peas and soda don't mix. My parents once discovered the peas from my sister's and my dinner plates floating in a big bottle of soda. Nabbed!

Friend of the Family. I've watched every episode of Family Feud from every era and can name all six hosts.

Brian Matz

Vice President of Sales

Early Years:

Team work: that what it's all about. Well, we've got your man. A Towson native, Brian graduated from Calvert Hall College, where he was an All-State baseball player. He played varsity basketball, too. Before you could blink, it seemed Brian was all grown-up and attending Clemson University on a baseball scholarship. Before EBS signed him on first-string, he made it all the way to the pros - under contract with the Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals). What does seven years in the big leagues earn you? Perseverance, communication skills and leadership qualities. That is, if you're keeping score.

What we know about Brian:

Hitting "Plan B" out of the ballpark.

When shoulder surgery ended the possibility of an MLB career, Brian completed his education at the University of Baltimore, graduating with a Business degree. Next to the plate? A career in insurance - with a goal to someday own his own business. In 2007, he affiliated with the group that is now EBS of Maryland, where it's safe to say that he still delivers a great pitch. But his biggest hit came when he married wife Christian in 2014, and happily settled in Baltimore's Canton neighborhood.

Fun Facts

First man on. I worked for Under Armour during off-season as one of just 20 employees - I helped make them what they are today!

Stand up straight. At Military School elementary school, I was voted "Most Admired Cadet" by classmates and as a 1st grader, named the school newspaper The Cadet Copy.

Pujols, schmujols. I once struck out Major League All-Star Albert Pujols in a spring training game.

Game On. I am a fiercely competitive golfer and bocce ball player.

Kevin Grace

Vice President of Sales

Early Years

Kevin grew up in Crofton Maryland, and it's safe to say his parents wanted him to experience a devout Catholic education. Kevin attended St. Pius X grade school, Dematha High School and graduated from St. Mary's High School (whether he ever experienced "the ruler" we have no idea). Kevin lettered in football, lacrosse and wresting, then went on to Salisbury University, where he made one of his toughest decisions ever - to put sports on hold to concentrate on earning a business degree.

What we know about Kevin:

He's practically the EBS mascot.

Kevin, a seasoned employee benefits consultant and top producer, has been recognized for his ability to develop new business in a consultative sales process. He also delivers high-quality, cost-effective creative solutions and services that result in many of EBS's many long lasting client relationships. How does Kevin manage all of this? Well, we humbly admit Kevin's extensive employee benefits knowledge includes (but is not limited to) plan designs, cost containment strategies, alternate funding, market trends, ACA compliance, technology decision support analytics, and technology based employee communications, so he juggles with ease and professionalism. He hopes to leverage his extensive charisma in his bid to become the next Oriole Bird mascot.

Fun Facts

I was the high school prom king. True.

I once held the record for the 6 and under backstroke. Crofton Swim and Tennis Club has never been the same.

I love any outdoor activity. Trail running and mountain biking are my favorites, but toss the coin and I'm in.

All of the mushy stuff is reserved for my family. To me, spending as much time with my young family as possible is the definition of quality time.

Kelli Argo

Client Care Specialist

Early Years:

Born in Maryland, Kelli is the oldest of three sisters. Always one to stay active, this kid sashayed her way into dance class at age five and kept dancing for 10 years! Kelli also played high school softball and, later, actively sought out adventure by studying abroad in Spain for three wonderful months while a student at the University of Delaware.

What we know about Kelli

After college, Kelli embarked on a career as a reporter for a weekly paper in Dover, Delaware. It took her just three years to realize the small salary wasn't going to cut it forever. After bartending to pay off debts, she ditched the booze and became dazzled by the world of insurance. "For seven years, I worked for State Farm and, as cheesy as it sounds, I really became that good neighbor my clients could count on."

After working as a benefits advisor and training specialist for KELLY, she joined EBS in early 2017. "For the first time ever, I feel like I've found my forever work home. I look forward to servicing our clients and helping our team grow the business for years to come." Aw, shucks. We feel the same way!

Fun Facts

Good Fake! One night, I asked this guy Eric to be my pretend boyfriend to keep a creepy older gentleman from hitting on me at a bar. It became pretty obvious he wasn't actually my boyfriend when we later exchanged numbers! No matter. The pretend boyfriend is now my husband!

Ok . . . Another Good Fake! I have a tiny tattoo on my foot, but my decision to get one was far from spontaneous. I wore a fake tattoo for a week to make sure I liked it first.

Getting Real. I am obsessed with being a mom. I never knew I could love a person so much. Madison "Maddie" has my heart! Eric - don't be jealous!

Just No. I am far from a picky eater but strongly dislike peas. They are gross.
