Ben Bohonowicz

Director of Client Services / Partner

Early Years

Born in Baltimore, Ben moved to Maryland's Eastern Shore at a young age. Active in sports as a youth, he spent most of his late teens and early twenties coaching soccer. He turned that passion into a business that focused on specialized team training for youth soccer teams, graduated from St. Mary's High School in Annapolis and attended most Maryland colleges - University of Maryland College Park, Anne Arundel Community College, and Towson University-to name just a few. But he prefers to call it an "educational tour."

What we know about Ben:

It all starts with strategic planning.

Ben got a taste of the insurance industry while attempting his college tour, when he worked as an intern with Strategic Employee Benefit Services, Northwestern Mutual's benefits division. It wasn't long before he dove head first into the benefits biz full time.

As green as he was in the midst of the Affordable Care Act, Ben seized the opportunity to learn all aspects of employee benefits - from sales to renewals and service. He eventually created the small group account management department at EBS (now crucial to maintaining and servicing EBS's small group clients). Ben's thirst for knowledge and experience has led him into different roles within EBS: you can find Ben overseeing the Account Management team, managing small and large group clients, compliance, and even taking on new clients when he has the opportunity. His hunt for new technology and services keeps him and his clients at the top of their game.

Kevin Grace

Vice President of Sales

Early Years

Kevin grew up in Crofton Maryland, and it's safe to say his parents wanted him to experience a devout Catholic education. Kevin attended St. Pius X grade school, Dematha High School and graduated from St. Mary's High School (whether he ever experienced "the ruler" we have no idea). Kevin lettered in football, lacrosse and wresting, then went on to Salisbury University, where he made one of his toughest decisions ever - to put sports on hold to concentrate on earning a business degree.

What we know about Kevin:

He's practically the EBS mascot.

Kevin, a seasoned employee benefits consultant and top producer, has been recognized for his ability to develop new business in a consultative sales process. He also delivers high-quality, cost-effective creative solutions and services that result in many of EBS's many long lasting client relationships. How does Kevin manage all of this? Well, we humbly admit Kevin's extensive employee benefits knowledge includes (but is not limited to) plan designs, cost containment strategies, alternate funding, market trends, ACA compliance, technology decision support analytics, and technology based employee communications, so he juggles with ease and professionalism. He hopes to leverage his extensive charisma in his bid to become the next Oriole Bird mascot.

I was the high school prom king. True.

I once held the record for the 6 and under backstroke. Crofton Swim and Tennis Club has never been the same.

I love any outdoor activity. Trail running and mountain biking are my favorites, but toss the coin and I'm in.

All of the mushy stuff is reserved for my family. To me, spending as much time with my young family as possible is the definition of quality time.

Abigail Bands

Administrative Assistant

Early Years: Game Rules

Abigail was raised in Bel Air, Maryland and lived with her mom, dad, and one sister. Growing up, sports were not her favorite. "I faked a lot of injuries to get out of soccer back in the day," she admits. Hanging out with her friends was fun and all, but when it came to playing, she just didn't have much interest in being in the game. On the other hand, she was a real sport when it came to her behavior. "I was quite the rule follower and did everything I could to stay out of trouble!" A good trait to have in the insurance business!

What We Know about Abigail: Work & The City

Abigail graduated from Towson University in 2014 with a dual degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. After graduation she was a teacher for four years - two years as a special needs teacher and two years ruling a second-grade classroom. "I lived in the city for a few years after graduation and loved every minute of it," she pines. Still, she moved to the county last summer. "I feel so thankful to work downtown so that I still get a little taste of city living!"

Abigail was married in November 2017. She and her husband are the proud parents of a golden retriever named Frannie - the family favorite!

She Knows When to Draw the Line: Almost always! 75% of my closet is made up of striped clothing.

Sam Wheeless

Benefit Consultant

Early years: Down on the farm 

Born and raised in Maryland, Sam has lived in Baltimore and Monkton, where she grew up on a horse farm. Ah, the days of swimming and horseback riding! Don't fool yourself, though. The two sports take a lot of discipline and commitment, which Sam put to good use during her Business Management studies at Loyola University. As if that wasn't enough of a workload, this go-getter also seamlessly juggled college life and earning her BAA with work as a manager at a Mexican restaurant! ĦAy, caramba!

What we know about Sam: Her interests get interesting! 

Prior to joining EBS, Sam was an account manager at The Warner Companies. She is an animal lover who volunteers at Baltimore County Animal Services. Sam loves memoirs (especially those written by David Sedaris). Not enough for you? She also makes a mean veal marsala! Sam enjoys cooking, trying out new restaurants, hiking and going to Spin class. Her love of high heels sends her tall frame into the clouds! Just don't talk to her before she's had her morning diet coke - Sam is so not a morning person!

Big Lug. I love big dogs (Rottweilers, Pit bulls, you name it)!
